Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information MiTrekker collects, why, who it is shared with, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to meet the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). We have tried to describe what actually happens rather than to cover every theoretical possibility.
Who we are
In this Privacy Policy, “MiTrekker”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Mitrekker (Pty) Ltd, which operates the website at mitrekker.co.za as a vehicle tracking and dashcam comparison service. MiTrekker is powered by OneCompare (Pty) Ltd, an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 55551) authorised by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002.
Mitrekker (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, except where a form is hosted by OneCompare — which is set out explicitly below, because it changes who holds your data.
Postal address: POSTNET SUITE 116, PRIVATE BAG X121, NOORDWYK, HALFWAY HOUSE, GAUTENG, 1687.
Email for privacy queries: legal@mitrekker.co.za.
What we collect, and when
When you browse
Reading this site requires nothing from you. No account, no email address, no form. Our analytics providers record the usual technical information about the visit: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, referring site, device and browser type, and time on page.
When you send an enquiry through the contact form
The form on our contact page asks only what is relevant to the topic you pick, so the fields differ by enquiry. Across the topics, it can collect:
- your name, email address and phone or WhatsApp number;
- your province, and your preferred contact method and time;
- what you are enquiring about — for a tracking quote, that means the vehicle or fleet, how many vehicles, your current provider if you have one, and the province for installation;
- a company name and website, where the enquiry is made on behalf of a business;
- any file you choose to attach — a CV for a job application, a proposal or media kit for a partnership or supplier enquiry, supporting documents for a legal or compliance matter;
- technical context sent with the submission: the page you were on, your browser user-agent string, and your IP address.
Your IP address is used to rate-limit submissions from a single address, which is what stops the form being abused. It is not used to profile you.
When you request a quote
Our quote page embeds a form hosted by OneCompare. What you enter there is submitted to OneCompare directly and does not pass through MiTrekker's systems. OneCompare is the responsible party for that information and handles it under its own privacy policy as an authorised financial services provider.
When you message us on WhatsApp
Messaging us on +27 78 820 6713 shares your WhatsApp number, your profile name and the content of your messages with us, through WhatsApp's own infrastructure and our WhatsApp Business provider. Message content is transmitted under WhatsApp's encryption; we hold the conversation history in the business account so we can answer you.
Why we use it
- To answer you. An enquiry is answered by a person, on the channel you asked for.
- To get you comparable quotes. Where you have asked for a tracking or dashcam quote, the details you gave are used to obtain and present options.
- To run and protect the service. Rate limiting, spam prevention, fault diagnosis and security.
- To understand how the site is used in aggregate, so we can write guides people actually need and fix what is broken.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing to people who did not ask for it.
Who it is shared with
We share personal information only where it is necessary for one of the purposes above:
- OneCompare — quote requests, so that a quote can actually be produced.
- The provider you choose — if you proceed, the tracking or dashcam company needs your details to contract with you and to install. Your agreement is with them directly.
- Our service providers, who process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and file storage for enquiries), Resend (email delivery of enquiry notifications), Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, Cloudflare Web Analytics and Vercel Analytics (site measurement), and our WhatsApp Business provider.
- Anyone we are legally obliged to disclose to — a court order, a regulator, or a lawful request from a competent authority.
Cross-border transfer
Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. POPIA permits this where the recipient is subject to laws or binding agreements that uphold a comparable standard of protection, and our providers operate under contractual data-protection terms of that kind.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and their attachments are kept for as long as needed for the purpose they were sent for, and afterwards only where a law requires us to keep records or where we need them to establish or defend a legal claim. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's standard retention settings. When information is no longer needed for any of these, it is deleted.
How it is protected
The site is served over HTTPS. Enquiries are transmitted encrypted and stored in an access-controlled database, with attachments in access-controlled storage. Access is limited to the people who need it to answer you. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise — but if a breach affects your personal information, POPIA requires us to notify you and the Information Regulator, and we will.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The analytics tools listed above set their own first-party cookies or identifiers to tell a returning visit from a new one. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them. Microsoft Clarity may record a de-identified playback of how a page was used — mouse movement, scrolling and clicks — which we use to find usability faults, not to identify individuals.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and be given a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, misleading or excessive;
- object to us processing your information, on reasonable grounds;
- withdraw consent you previously gave, without affecting what was lawful before;
- complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have not handled your information properly.
To exercise any of these, contact us on the details below. We may need to confirm your identity first, so that we are not handing your information to someone else.
Children
This service is intended for adults arranging cover or protection for a vehicle. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes will be described rather than slipped in.
